Mixed Classes

Round 7, Spa and FINAL Results

Results and Reports Spa and FINAL Results!

We saved the best for last: the 2 hours of Spa! As expected an eventful race with mixed classes on the most beautiful track in the world! THE place where real drivers can show what they are worth.

In P1 this was proven by our Championship and Race winner Frozen! Congrats! Not only did he win the race, but put the entire field at (at least) a lap! A true show off of a Champion!
Second and third place were for LRT drivers Bryan and CasH. A great race for Bryan, as after the start he found himself (due to a spin) at the back of the entire field.

P2 was a close fight until the very last race. Race winner Bizadfar missed a few races. Something that is deadly in a short Championship. Despite that, he managed to finish second in the Championship!

Mainly due to his incredible speed in his P2 car, often beating the majority of the P1 cars! The winner in P2 however became RustyM. He did so by claiming one victory in P2 and consequent finishes, most in Top 3! Consistency pays off! Congrats Rusty!

GT1 had a surprise ending. Not predicted Championship winner Locutus, but his Don't Lift Teammate Stewart claimed victory here! A well deserved win however after a hard season for Stewart!
This also shows the speed of Locutus during the season, as even with this DNF, Locutus claimed the GT1 title with a pretty big margin over 2nd placed Stewart. Well done Locutus! Congrats as well!

GT2 had this time another winner as well: Belgian Jipper89! A great feeling to win at your home track! Jipper89 not only won GT2 here, but he even gave GT1 winner Stewart a hard time! Amazing, with his slower GT2 Porsche!

GT2 Championship winner however was Bartix, who struggled here at Spa. Well, who cares? Winning the Championship matters after all, but I guess he initially had other plans with this beautiful track.

Pity this great Winter Season here at TYKA is over. It was our first mixed classes Championship and, based on reactions, it was just GREAT!

I have, again, to express my compliments to all you contesters for your great behaviour! We didn't have many disputes and I even read multiple compliments by various drivers about the professionality of all during overtaking/lapping! Worth mentioning, as we've seen otherwise in the past.

On behalf of TYKA, I'd like to thank all competitors for the great fun and excitement we had yet again!

Special thanks to some of the real life drivers we had competing in here, like Sean Edwards (congrats with new PSC contract!), Marco Holzer and Rik Westbrook! GL you guys in real life racing! I bet we'll see you around and we'll be following you guys!

BUT, don't think it's all over now. As you might expect from us, we already prepared our Summer League F1 for you.
Read all about it HERE.

Beside that, we want to know if you are interested in another (tintop) League this summer. Read (and vote!) about that HERE.

I hope to see all of you (and feel free to tell your friends!) soon at Bahrain, for our opening race of the F1 season!

Below some nice Race Reports by some of our contesters.

THE PRIZE WINNERS OF OUR MINICHAMPS CAR OF THEIR CHOICE WILL BE CHOSEN AND ANNOUNCED SOON!

Race Report(s):

By Taxi:

"As most I guess, I really like the Spa track. Lot more character than most tracks and some pretty challenging corners yet with a nice flow to it.

I started my qualifying with my Brno set up with changed gears since I expected it to perform well on Spa as well. Indeed it worked well and at some point I managed a 2.19.9 which I felt was pretty quick. However when Jip join the qualy server he instantly was setting similar times and in the short race afterwards he did a 2.19.5 which I meant I had to find some way to increase my pace a bit further.

At Brno I had increased my damper stiffness to make the car react more slowly to inputs in an effort to make it more stable, but I noticed that Jips car was far more eager to change direction yet stabilizing right away. I could see how, as a result, he gained tenths on me in the curvy bits. So Sunday afternoon I decided to do a few more set up tweaks to see if I could improve a bit more and to see what strategy to use for the race.

I lowered the front damper stiffness to make the car turn in quicker with the stiffer rear dampers stabilizing the car with a short delay. It worked quite well, turn improved noticeably, but the car kept stable resulting in a 2.19.6 lap, only 0.1s slower than Jips so that was close enough for me. Strategy was fairly simple, the car would make it on two tanks and two sets of soft tires, so I reckon any double stinting trick strategy was not worth it.

Then the race. I had a pretty good start since some people were either sleeping or expecting a formation lap. I managed to "jump" from 21 to 15th and had a lot of LMP's and GT1 behind me, so it was mirror time right from the word go. There was some mishap on the track in front of me so managed to get to 13th place, if only for a short while. On the third lap Locutus had overtaken all the other GT's behind me and started to close in. I was paying too much attention to my mirror and went wide spun and dropped my rear spoiler over the guardrail. Driving towards the pits I stupidly spun again and once more hitting the wall.

Obviously I lost a lot of time in the pits and afterwards my car didn't not have the same amount of grip and top speed as before. I decided to make the best of the situation, thinking that a lot could still happen it being a 2 hour race. The rest of the race went okay, it was hard to keep rhythm letting all the LMP cars pass by. At the end there was not much to fight for and through lack of concentration did not adequately respond to grip loss through tire weir, crashing a third time. I still made it to the pits, but the car was beyond repair and I decided to retire to not cause any trouble for others.

Any way was fun racing at Tyka, since I don't like F1 racing I might be on a small hiatus here, but would enjoy joining a next Tyke GT season, just hope people won't be spread between heats and class as much and in case of LMS, let GT's keep their line.

Cheers everyone"

By Bryan:

"Wow, what a race. I was exhausted after the 2hrs that's for sure. I had to start in nose view on as I could not see the start lights in cockpit view (which I use) or in Tcam, for some reasone I tried to switch back to cockpit view before the first turn (brain explosion) bounced off the wall and spun, from there I went from 2nd to last as I was stuck pointing back at T1.
After a horror start I was set with the task of catching up and it was an action packed 2hrs of chasing and surviving with a badly damaged car. In the end I managed to fight back to 2nd in P1 class which I was pretty happy with considering what went wrong during the race.

One thing I have to say from my experience in this series is how well and professional all driver's were, with the potential for disaster having the different classes in the same race I personally had the feeling it was always hard but fair.. most times:-) so a big well done to all.

And finally a big well done to Tyka admin, other great event."

Mixed Classes

Round 6, Brno

Results and Reports Brno

As expected at this great track, another action packed race! For some drivers and Teams a bit too action packed, but more about that later ;).

Again one BIG heat of 28 cars in 4 different classes, all trying to 'beat the rest' and if possible, win their class.

The fastest class, P1, had yet another winner this round! And a well deserved one, after some troubles in previous races. His name: Bogdanis! Well done! Finally!

Although there is no Teams Championship in this League, Lowland Racing Team is very happy to provide the winner again! If he was helped by his Teammates or even Teamcaptain is not sure, but it dìd help that LRT drivers Bryan, CasH and Tygernoot crashed together, minimising the amount of competitive LRT drivers. I heard within the Team they are still investigating the guilt issue...

In P2 Bizadfar did one of his stunning races again! Not only winning his class, but finishing in 3rd overall, leaving many P1 cars behind him! In this 40 minutes Race, even only giving in 18 seconds to second placed P1 driver Frozen! Amazing! I guess most P1 drivers are glad Brian chose to drive P2.

Olympic Motor Racing Team celebrated the second position of their driver Nemesis, who had the race of his life! Leaving well known names like Championship leader RustyM behind him!

I bet the latter getting worried about his leading position in P2, with Bizadfar coming closer and closer.

I don't want to say GT1 gets boring, as the fights always are close in there! However, the winner gets pretty predictable: Don't Lift's Locutus! This time the Team did a 1,2,3 in GT1, as McMilan took 2nd place with a gap of only 4 seconds to the winner and Stewart scored again finishing 3rd. As Team a way better result than the above mentioned LRT ;).

Like the other classes, GT2 got a great fight as well! Unfortunately poleman Taxi couldn't make it for the race. Fastest man according race laptime, was Master-D. However, the overall fastest man and thus winner, became GT2 Championship leader Bartix. Him stretching his lead in the Championship even more. Yet another succesful Olympic Motor Racing Team driver in this League!

Race Report(s):

By Nemesis:

"Even though this was my 2nd, 2nd place this league this was probably my best result so far and I had a really enjoyable race.

Starting 3rd in my heat I got a decent enough get away but unfortunatly the car in front was quite slow and I had to go around, as a result I had p1's diving past me and rustym did too. I was quite worried about this as I knew I might well be held up. After a lap or so I was still stuck behind rustym, one corner I got held up by rustym's slower exit out of a turn and cash managed to get past me. Soon after I got past RustyM but was now stuck behind cash who was struggling with his heavy car. I knew this was wrecking my race but fortune saved me when cash smashed into bryan in turn one and collected tygernoot as well some laps down the line. This put me in 2nd behind bizadfar, who was 7 seconds up the road. I spent the rest of the race pushing to catch up and managed at best to get within 3 seconds of him but on the last lap I got held up in traffic on the last lap and the gap ended at about 5 seconds.

Was a really good race for me, quick pace, very little errors and if I had not been in so much traffic early on I might of had a chance of challenging for the win as my ultimate pace was quicker than bizadfar."

By Rinker:

"Brno, a track that was new for me. I found a reasonable pace as I was 6th in qualifying in mine class and had a 13th place overall. My pb had moved me 2 places up in the class but I had no time to do any of the seven qualifying sessions that where left for me after I did my last session. I’m very happy with this result however. The start was of the race was not bad, a P1 passes me and just before the first corner SchumiKov also passed me because I was a little careful as I saw some P1’s going off. I was held up by SchumiKov as I was faster than him, while trying to overtake him KostasCB1 – who was on my back -takes his profit and passes me and a few corners later he also passed SchumiKov. Then on lap 5 I could overtake SchumiKov while braking late on the straight before the second corners, while going a little wide there was Walter976 who passes us both, also Veldt000 who has found his connection with us was right behind SchumiKov now, now it was Walter976 who held me up, top speed are almost the same but with cornering I was faster, so it was very hard to overtake. On lap 6 veldt000 passes SchumiKov and was chasing me now, one lap tater I tried to overtake Walter976 on the same place and way I took SchumiKov, which had succeeded if I was not going a little wide, Walter976 could take the inside and had his place back. Two corners later he braked very very early, to let pass a P1 I think who was also in fight with us, because of his early braking I must took the inside, while we are middle in a corner we touched each other as he was also going to the inside leaving no room for me and I was already half on the curbs, it was  just a little touch but enough for him to spin. Then I had still veldt000 on my back, and I wanted to chase RustyM, but J Espinosa in his P1 held me up this time, he was not driving very consistent although he was faster than me, when he found his rhythm and the gap between us grows bigger I could also push a little more, on lap 13 I could overtake RustyM, this giving me the 4th place in mine class, so I started to chase KostasCB1, who had a few seconds lead on me. On the end of lap 18 I was on his back and I had J Espinosa on my back again, on lap 19 I could overtake KostasCB1 due the late braking again before the second corner, Due lot of traffic at the end of the race KostasCB1 could stay very close to me, but I could keep my position and finished 3rd in the Class and 7th place overall which was more then I had hoped for, so a very very happy person here, again a podium place, and again I had a great race with great fights, this AMA guy is thinking of going to EXP in F1 league J, see ya all at Spa!
UPDATE: It seems I lost a few places due a dispute, imho a very childish dispute as I can think of only one RACE incident, alsoi put question marks on the judgments of the marshals  in this."

By Bartix:

"There is some Fair Play action I'd like to report. And I guess it is worth to mention in the news article.

I started from the first position in class (GT2) and I kept that to the first corner's entrance. Then I got about 3 sec lag (probably caused by small accident in front of me) my car froze and then I showed up about 30 meters behind my previous position on the track, with my opponent MasterD in front of me. He slowed down before the next corner and gave me back the position.
That's nomination to Fair Play Award."

Mixed Classes

Round 5, Long Hockenheim

Results and Reports Hockenheim

The already 5th round of our Winter Championship and still close and unpredictable in all classes!

This time yet another winner in P1 and his first victory in TYKA for José Espinosa! Closely followed by CasH who scr*ewed up one pitstop. Third the ever fast, but this time unlucky man: Frozen. Top 3 with three different Teams! Olympic Motor Racing, Lowland Racing Team and Serviola Spanish Team. We don't run a Team Championship because of the mixed classes, but still ;).

This time a remarkable appearance of one particular P1 car. The colour reveals the gender of the driver (well, I hope :P). Because of her birthday she (A_C_Muller) did a special paintjob on her car and I must say it does look great! However it reminds me (personally) of the 'Pussy Wagon' from 'Kill Bill'. I don't know why :P:D. Then this might be my imagination, but this is encouraged by the number of the car... :D. Sorry, back to the driving :P. She again finished and again scored big points! This even giving her 5th position overall in P1! Great effort!

In P2 also another winner again! This time the very happy Teammate of P1 driver Frozen: Zunik! His first win in TYKA! After a hard battle with Rinker, Zunik finally did it, and I heard the celebrations with Serviola Spanish Team lasted until the next morning! Good 'old' RustyM took third place this time. Still enough however to keep a very small lead in P2!

GT1 was again dominated by Don't Lift and yet again by Locutus. This time however more on consistency instead of raw speed, as Locutus only jùst did the fastest lap! Not far behind his Teammate  Stewart, who gave his Top man a real battle! Third became LRT driver Kf12006, leaving our Kiwi(schen) just outside the podium places.

Another Olympic Motor Racing driver took the win in GT2. Polish driver Bartix did the trick here by doing a steady race. A pretty lonely race as well, as his other components in this class had to give up because of crashes. I didn't hear him complain however, as he increased his overall lead in GT2!

Race Report(s):

By Kamilo62:

"After again nice fast qual 11th place at start there was again race.
This time noo problem with start....Quick start and to first chicane im 5th..Little problems with Steering wheel but its other pool.....
Long straight..max speed..high temperature for Engine - And my Engine lost this Battle.......After few nice laps with one mistake, at end of the turn my engine blow up...And again noo points in Winter. In My last race in Winter."

By Rinker:

"Long Hockenheim, didn’t know what to expect here, it was a track I drove many times in the old days with GP2/3/4. Qualification was very good, I was 9th overall and 2nd  in mine class,  so far my best qualification result.  The start of the race was good, I had to overtake a P1 on the outside who was standing in front of me and was starting slow. KostasCB1  had a great start and as I was on the outside he could take the inside of the P1 and passes us both, but he was very careful  before the first chicane and there I have taken my place back due the early braking of him. In the third chicane zunik made a mistake and I could easy overtake him, the gap between zunik and me was 1.2 sec. but zunik was a little faster than me and was closing in a little every lap. On lap 6 he was on my back and just before the first corner  I was going a little through the grass on the moment I was going to steer for it, I lost my back and going too fast to the inside, but I had my car under control fast and through the grass on the inside I was  back on track in no time, I think this action of me scared  zunik as he was going wide straight through the gravel which gives me a few seconds lead on him, also kostasCB1 passes zunik here, but a mistake of kostasCB1 gives zunik his place back. The gap between zunik and me stays the same during the laps till the pit stop, sometimes less, sometimes more, just due the traffic. I was on 4th position these laps and was going to pit when I was on 3rd  position overall., this was on lap 27, half way the race, not bad for me. My pit stop was terrible and lost too much time here, I just could keep myself in front of zunik when leaving the pits, and as he was right on my back he started to attack right away, in the third chicane he tried to overtake but things go wrong and we both are going off, in the lap that follows I was not taking the second chicane right and he could overtake me on the straight, due the accident my car feels different and I had to use to it, zunik was faster than me so a gap between us was created easy by him. Some P1’s who had trouble early the race passes me while we near to the end of the race. So I finished 7th place overall and 2nd  in mine class which I’m very happy with, it is also my best race result so far. Again I had a great race, I did not do any pushing this race as I wanted to keep the position I was driving, it is already hard to keep concentrated such long races. I hope to find my pace on the next track, Brno a track that’s new for me, see ya all there."

By Zunik:

"Finally a race win! 1st win on Tyka and 1st win since the champcar win in Indianapolis (thanks to the premium member status I know these facts :) ). Of course the win was easier because Bizadfar and mymini were not on track, but it was not an easy win! I got a bad start as usual, but not as bad, as after turn 1 with a small touch with Kostas I was P1 of P2 lol. In first laps I did lots of errors and I was lucky not to hit anything or anyone. I was faster than Rinker who was leading the race but couldn't get him as I was less lucky with backmarkers and was doing lots of small errors. Nevertheless I could enter the pits just behind him and had a close exit of pits just behind his car. I tried a first pass in 3rd chicane as there is were I had my best options and we both touched as I got in the interior but entered chicane locking wheels. I let him by, as he was doing too, and Kostas almost catched us!! One-two laps later I tried the same move, but this time with success. After this I opened a small gap and tried to keep it as I was still doing small errors due to lack of cocentration. Rinker had one try to pass me but I closed the door, and after that I did my best lap and opened again a controlable gap until the finish.
I want to apologize to some backmarkers because I did some risky passes, but I was really focused on the fight with Rinker. It was a difficult race as we were within 5 seconds all the race!!! Cya in Spa!"

Round 4, Mid Ohio

Results and Reports Mid Ohio (and some real life news!)

After the long green hell, time for another sprint race!
This time at Mid Ohio. As it is a pretty short track, we again splitted, due to the large number of contesters.
Both heats being spectacular and close!

Team Don't Lift did a good job again! Both P1 and GT1 victory went to them. P1, heat one and overall winner NightStalk3r (Kyle Williams) dominated and won, even after serving his 30 seconds penalty from Le Mans! Great job! His teammate Locutus proved yet again to be the fastest GT1 man, even leaving some higher class cars behind him!

Heat 2 was spectacular as well with a weird and rare winner, yours truly, CasH!
Bogdanis started at the front row with Jose Espinosa next to him. Bogdanis being away fast, but under pressure (?) by Jose and CasH made a mistake and flew off. After a small mistake Jose had a minor off as well, giving CasH the lead, while doing the fastest laps of the race as well. Up to the moment CasH noticed his fuel wouldn't be sufficient to last the full race! His crew 'advised' just before the start to lower the amount a bit... Therefore CasH had to do about 15 laps with minor revving, therefore slowing down pretty much. After finishing, only 0.1 lap of fuel remained, leaving only a margin of 2.3 seconds to second P1 guy Jose. Needless to say CasH still was very happy with his win in H2 and 5th place overall!

The biggest effort came from yet another Don't Lift driver. P2 is being dominated by him and even in the overall rankings he manages to beat almost all P1 cars!
Yes, of course our well known Aussie B(rian) Izadfar (note the 'i') is the one I'm talking about! Not only did he win P2 with a huge gap to second placed man Mymini of about 40 seconds, Brian even finished 2nd overall! Just in front of his former countryman (now German, but denying :P) Bryan! You guys can still follow me? ;).

GT1 as said fell victim to Locutus, but behind him, the fights continue for the podiumplaces remaining! It starts to get boring, but yet another Don't Lift driver, this time our private photographer Stewart, did another great job clinching second place in GT1.

LRT driver KF12006 did well in finishing in 3rd place, despite some problems with faster classed cars. Great job!

The last, but certainly not the least class, GT2, was won by Belgian Jipper89! He even managed to take 25th position overall, which is great in a field of 46 cars with mostly higher classed cars!

All in all very action packed racing yet again, with many surprises and for some the ever unexpected crashes or misfortune. But hé, that's racing and it simply is part of the (unfortunate) action!

Now, like mentioned in the title, I'd like to refer to the efforts some of our real life racers do in the meantime, between racing and practicing with us in TYKA. We often posted about Sean Edwards and his victories in real life PSC several times. Júst before our TYKA race, real life had their Dubai 24 hours. Two of our drivers competed there! Unfortunately Sean didn't even make it to his stint, as their car broke down in the early stages. However our other driver here, M(arco)Holzer... WON! From here, yet another CONGRATS to Marco!!! This proves practicing with TYKA does pay off ;). GL you both in next races and keep us informed please! We'll support you!

Race Report(s):

By Bryan:

"I had a good start and held position well, the next 40 minutes I had a good chase with Biz. I have never seen so much traffic in a race lol, it was constant and from about the 3rd lap there were car's everywhere. My chase was great fun, Biz would get held up by traffic and I would catch up then the same would happen to me, certainly had to concentrat hard for the full 40 minutes."

By Rinker:

"Most, or at least half, of the tracks in this winter league are new for me, so is Mid Ohio, maybe I’ve been racing there in the long past, but I can’t remember  that I did that (I told you the last time that I’m very old :P).

I did a low 1.12 with qualifying, and whatever I tried I couldn’t get into the 1.11.  even not in practice, while my best sector times had given me a 1.11.5 but I could not do a lap below the 1.12.
So I concentrated on my race setup, as a ama driver I always looking for a lot stability, knowing that I’m not the fastest driver, certainly not with such a setup, but I like to finish. The start of the race was good, not a fast start, but that was impossible on this track with the cars so close to you, especially when the one in front of you are starting slow also. I did lose one place to a P1 after the first corner,  then I got Walter975 in my back, after two laps he passes me but one lap later I got it back due a mistake of him going wide. Then it was Veldt000 who was chasing me, I was 1.5 seconds ahead of him but due overtaking on the most less wanted places I lost some time and he was closing in. He did try to overtake me but I closed the door, I was a little faster on the second sector and with no traffic ahead I could make the gap 1.2 seconds again, on lap 12 I braked too long in the second corner because of a GT2 who was going wide and I was afraid something would happen, well it did, I put my car sideways on track due the braking, this gives Veldt000 the opportunity to pass me, he was now 2.5 seconds ahead of me  and I started to push a little, after a few laps I had closed the gap, now it was him who had traffic, I was a little faster but I could not overtake him, so I keep pushing  hoping he would also make a mistake, but it was me again on lap 20 who lost the back and  gives Veld000 a 6 seconds lead.  So I had to start pushing again, just a little harder now, on lap 26 I was on his back again, I was those laps a second faster than him, but to overtake was really hard,  I keep pushing him but he keep the door close all the way to the end. I believe I won 1 place overall compared to my qualify position. I had a nice race, a great fight with Veld000 through the whole race. Although  mine result was not that good, i was feeling this race has all on board what this mod must be with mixed classes. GREAT!!!"

Round 3, Nordschleife

Results and Reports Nordschleife

The long awaited, ever spectacular 'Grüne Hölle' or in English 'Green Hell': The Nordschleife!
Every him/herself respecting driver should have raced this track once in his/her life!

Due to again a large number of contesters and the relatively small amount of grid spots, we again split up in 2 heats. Both, looking at the amount of finishers, equally hard. But I guess whatever heat or car, the track simply IS hard, with it's uncountable amount of corners. Very easy to get lost when not fully concentrated.

Both heats started with 20 contesters and both finished with way less :). As expected.

Mixed classes provides great interclass action. Nords shows the skills of the really great drivers! In P1 it was Serviola Spanish Team driver Frozen claiming victory with an amazing speed all 14 laps! Second placed overall however wasn't another P1 car, but P2 driver B-Izadfar! Amazing effort to keep the also fast, second P1 finisher Bogdanis behind him! Don't Lift will be happy B-Izadfar woke up in time to compete ;).

A true heroic 3rd place in P1 is for the Team Captain of Black Panda Racing herself: A_C_Muller! I heard she had a three day party with way too many booze after it to celebrate! Proof to be found on their website HERE. Now let's hope they all recovered before next race!

GT1 class was fully dominated by Don't Lift drivers!
Winner became McMilan with just a great average speed! Second his teammate Locutus and third our private photographer, but in the meantime fast and consistent driver as well, Stewart!

This not only proves their speed, but also their ability to finish (hard) races, as they were the only three to finish at all in this class! Respect!

The only success here for Olympic Motor Racing Team, achieved by Bartix! Him doing great business for himself in the overall GT2 standings, claiming 2nd place up to now, very close behind MasterD!

Most of us expected many to crash here, simply by lack of practice and knowledge of the track (as in yours truly's case). Well, many did! Some in spectacular ways :). We couldn't even honour all photo requests, as it would take up too much time of our (very busy!) photographer and our news would be even doubled in length.
One that made it to the news, was this great shot, where slow CasH wanted to be polite in his P1 car and let ever fast P2 car of Marco Holzer pass. Due to a misunderstanding, both however ended up in pieces at some forrest edge... Poor Holzer!

Race Report(s):

By Soyer:

“One of my most favourite race track in the world with over 170 corners it was a beast, My qualifying didn’t quite go to plan as I had only been practicing for around a hour or two I was just happy to get around in one piece but at a time of 9:14 and qualified 39th overall and 19th out of 20th in my heat. I got a pretty good start overtaking 3 from the grid but amazingly got stuck behind a couple of P1’s, my 1st lap was good chasing down Taxi which with whom I almost collided with:

I got past Taxi and headed off into the distance with Bartix being 40 seconds behind but I knew he was faster, With cars going of everywhere and me seeing CasH spinning I was pushing to overtake the P1 car but braked a bit late and slammed the wall, I ended up with aero and suspension damage which made my car veer off to the right and also my tyres was playing up, I saw the 1:00:000 remaining timer which meant that my pit stop was soon to come On lap 6 I checked my tyres which the fronts was both in red and on the last bad which i was also only at the start of the Nords, I was in the final sector just before the back straight when the fronts both blew which was a nightmare to handle.

This also caused me to miss the pit entry:

After that i pitted in with major damage for a 67 second pit stop which as i didnt know that i have to turn the engine off it let go on the way out of the pits.” Now onto Mid Ohio where i want a victory"

 By Zinner:

"After suffering a blown engine at Le Mans and a terrible drive at Laguna due to collision with a GT2 car on the first lap I was hoping to get a respectable finish at Nords despite the limited practice time I'd had on this (at first daunting) track.

I got a good start from the back of H2 and flew past Locutus who seemed bogged down from a combination of slow starting P class around him. I didn't have the momentum to get past Steward in the first two corners and he pulled away after, with Locutus recovering from his bad start and catching quickly. I didn't protest too much his overtaking maneuver as there wasn't much room for error on the exit of Hatzen and he was always going to get past anyway, purely based on qualifying lap times. Later on in the lap, I had a collision with kamilo62 as he pulled back on track recovering from an off in the apex of a turn. My car didn't seem damaged as a result but the loss of time pushed me back into the clutches of kf12006. He seemed to have problems of his own however, and fell back over the next lap. The car felt quite good by this point and I could push, seemingly catching the back of the pack ever so slowly. Unfortunately, my race was cut short on the 4th lap because of loss of connection to server, ending my race and leaving me bitterly disappointed."

By Snakey_UK:

"After a good and cautious start and getting past by nemesis i settled in at the back of the p2 pack in p7 i believe on lap one i made a tiny mistake in sector 2 by braking late and lightly touched the barriers, car felt fine so i continued and made my best lap time on lap 2 and made lap 3 and 4 fine with 2 minor mistakes.
But on lap 5 i got too confident and clipped one of the kerbs in sector3 and hit the front left hard making the car steer to left and the wheel had to be at the 10 to 4 o clock position for me to steer straight i decided id pit at the end of this lap but totally flew/skidded past the pit exit doh!

© Snakey_UK

So i had to make another full circuit to pit so after driving like your granny for the lap i managed to remember to slow for the pit lol, damage took 77 seconds to fix :( ,but the car was again drivable.
For the rest of the race i made 2 or 3 maybe more ;) little mistakes which gradually slowed the cars top speed until the finish other than being lapped by the top 2 cars and letting 2 faster cars past without much fight i had no major incidents with other cars which was just as well really as this was a very tough race to finish but im happy i managed to complete the whole race in one peice finishing 7th in heat and 9th overall to sum it up really it was not so much exciting but intense concentration required at nordschleife congrats to all who finished :) and the winners."

By Rinker:

"I’ve been racing here(F1rst/Tyka ) for almost 8 years now I believe , and this was mine first long race, and also on EXP level ( the main reason why I drive AMA, where we only do 50% of the race). It should have been Le Mans but there I was a little unlucky, I made three corners before I was hitted  from behind, very pity because  I spend a lot of time there and after seeing the results I would have had a very good race pace.

So I was afraid this would happen again here on the Nordschleife, where I knew I had not a bad race pace. My qualify was also not bad, it even surprised me that I had made the 7 min..  My start was good,  I started 5th in my heat but after two corners I was 3rd  and had passed Zunik and KostasCB1 who started in front of me, KostasCB1 stays just behind me but he made a mistake early in the first lap, without feeling  his pressure  I just could relax a little and drove  away from the others behind me and had only  B Izadfar and Frozen ahead of me., Frozen drove a P1, but B Izadfar, also  in a P2, had  a tremendous pace, so no way for me to fight with him, he drove away from me that easy!

Because I was faster than the guys behind me I told myself not to push and try to stay on track, therefore my lap-times  where a little slower than the little test I had done, but everything  goes fine and I did not make any mistakes, I started with a full fuel load and did my pit stop after 7 laps , after my pit stop things getting harder for me, sometimes I lost my concentration, i sometimes even don’t remember which corner was coming next, braking  for corners where I normally not braked, it was really hard for an old man like me who had never raced that long before  (yes, I’m even older than CasH), due those things I lost my car almost twice, but  managed to keep going without too many damage. I had no problem lapping other cars as they behave wonderful again.  Then finally the end of the race came insight, I calculated that I needed fuel for 13 laps, That should be enough if Frozen was not so fast, I saw the horror coming  as I keep an eye on Frozen and where I was afraid of happened, with a little more than a minute to go Frozen passes Start/Finish starting his last lap which means I had to do also another lap. That was not calculated and I had to pit before the last lap to take fuel for just one lap. The gap between Walter976 (who drove himself  to 4th position) was more than 2 minutes, so with the extra stop I could keep my position and I finished 3rd  in the heat, 3rd  in the class and 5th overall, I’m very happy with this result, pity that I had to do that extra pit stop as I could have been moved up one place overall and was second in my class then.

See ya all on the next track. "

Results Laguna Seca, Reports and Video

Again, due to the number of competitors and the nature of the track, we decided to split the heats in 2. Just to avoid havoc.
It seems to have helped, as 31 out of 40 finished!

As usual starts and first laps remain exciting and eventful! Lots of overtaking, touching, and some artisticly approved simultanious sliding, like Bizadfar and Jardier did in heat 2 :).

For Jardier not the best way to keep the overall leading position in P1.

Also in Heat 2 and P1, two of the faster guys battled it out (was H1 boring? NO! But Edwards didn't make the start, so that took a bit of the sting out of Heat 1).
Ever fast Iñigo Otermin had a great pace, but unfortunately for him, Okan Kükner refused to give in and stayed ahead. Not a really embarrassing, as Okan became the overall winner of P1.

Iñigo initially finished 2nd overall, but due to extreme lag and therefore some hits to other cars, he was penalised with 60 seconds. Still to take 5th!
The one with the best outcome overall was however Bogdanis, finishing (after penalty Iñigo) in 4th place, which gave him the lead in the P1 overall rankings!

The most impressive drive at Laguna however came from P2 driver Mymini. With a stunning pace, he outclassed several P1 cars, finishing in 3rd place overall! I heard his Team Boss immediately doubled his salary after this great drive!

GT1 was a 1, 2 for Don't Lift drivers Locutus and Stewart. Only Zinner could make it to the finishline of the rest of the GT1 pack. Amazing this Stewart guy btw! Driving a steady and fast race, taking podium, while in the meantime taking shots of the surroundings and fellow competitors! I wonder what laptimes he'd do if concentrating to the race ;). Well, it has to be said: truly GREAT pics yet again!!!!!

Due to a nasty hit in the penultimate lap, Danny3L lost his well deserved victory to MasterD, who himself did a great race as well (watch his video report below!). Newcomer Taxi took 3rd and good old Biggetje 4th. While Danny3L felt sorry for himself, there was another driver feeling lucky... to be alive still... We are used to him having a crash now and then, but this one was not his fault. It for sure was the most spectacular crash of both heats! I'm glad Chaggy (Chacal) feels better already, trying to be fit for the Nordschleife.

Race Report(s):

By TAXI:

Heat 1:

Had a good start catched up on the GT1 in front of me and made small contact which was a bit rude of me. I braked early but everyone else braked even earlier so after a bit I had some GT1's and LMP's behind me. I let the LMP pass easily since no use in trying to fight them and did the same with Steward in his Aston, cause I figured it he would take off any way.

After letting him pass the gap didn't increase as fast as expected and while getting into a good rhythm the first front runner LMP's started filling my mirrors. All that went fairly well I was lucky I could let most pass in for me convenient parts of the track. When I checked my gap to Steward it had shrunk from 6 second or so to something like 3.5 and I started pushing a bit more. Was wondering if he was having tire problems or he was hindered more by the LMP's than me. Any way I was in the groove and a Spyder showed up in my mirror on start finish, I left him room on the inside of T1 but he spun and hit my front wheel. No biggy I thought and continued, but there was no turn in at T2. Apparently something got damaged by the contact at the left front. I crawled the whole track towards the pits and stood still for 56 seconds.

Well basically my race was over at that point, I carried on to at least finish, but didn't really felt like pushing much since there was no one in front or behind to battle with. At the end biggetje had damage problems of his own and I passed him on what I believe was the last lap. 3rd GT2 of the two heats so better luck next race I suppose.

By Frozen:

"The start was wonderful, I managed to do a better start than the poleman and going into the 1st corner I was leading the race. I wanted to push really hard in those early laps to open a gap and manage the race after that. I succeeded, I opened a 5 sec gap in three laps or so, and from then on I was still making it bigger despite not going on the limit (saving fuel and engine). The race was becoming too confortable, I did lost focus and I did my only mistake of the race by spinning the car in the last corner! I lost a lot of time because I was not in a good position and had to take a lot of precautions when rejoining, but fortunately the gap to the 2nd driver was big enough (more than 20sec) to hold the top spot. I did not push much for the rest of the race and maybe that in addition to  the spin contributed to finish 3rd in the global standings... I should have pushed much more all the way until finish to have a chance for the win, but after my Le Mans DNF I needed a top finish, 3rd is OK!"

By Mymini:

"As we got underway, at first I had a fantastic start but then I lifted as I saw the P1 guys right infront of me (was lag) but this allowed Tygernoot to get by. I followed him for a lap. However, the lag issue didn't resolve. I continued on till turn 1 the next lap, to my screen it seemed as if he hit the gravel, then came back on the track and spun. Unfortunately, after the race I learnt I hit him off :( Sorry about that.
A few laps later I had a half spin which had Zunik and CasH overtake me. I was following CasH for a while, and into the final corner he let me by. I quickly closed up on Zunik. Had a battle with him for quite a while, but then passed him into Turn 1 around the outside.
I was then just setting as fast times as possible, and with Bogdanis spinning at the Corkscrew, I gained third. I was pulling away from him. I was able to set some low 14s and mid 13s.Which meant I was closing down on Jose. I passed Jose, but he was keeping up with me.
After a few laps, we were lapping a GT2 car (I think) into the final corner, he went for a late move and caught my rear wing/tire. I spun, nicely he waited but since he was a P1, I signaled for him to continue one. By this time. Bogdanis caught up with us and they were having a good battle. As I was quite fast, in the 13s, I was able to join in. I got passed them a few times, but each time they had the grunt to get past again. (Also, with me letting them by on the run down to the corkscrew - as I was afraid they could hit me as the massive speed disadvantage I would have)

After Jose spun, I got by Bogdanis and pulled away from him to 2 seconds.

Even with those few mishaps, I took P2 victory :D
Congrats to all finished!"

Round 1, Le Mans

Results Opening Race, Le Mans

A HUGE amount of contesters for our Winter League! No less than 54 (!) drivers showed, for the first time ever done here, in mixed classes (P1, P2, GT1 and GT2).

As most know we did some test racing, but still in the main race we initially had some problems, due to the specific used track with this amount of contesters.
Thanks to Tygernoot's fast adaption we were still able to race, however in 2 Heats.

Both heats were pretty spectacular, with lots of incidents, reflected in the amount of finishers in this Endurance race.

Class 1, P1 had a huge amount of contesters; 22!
However clinching pole, NightStalk3r had bad luck in the race itself, crashing in the early stages, due to a driver error.
He wasn't the only one! Most eye catching was Edwards. Starting from the back, he speeded to the front of the pack, leading it with a BIG gap, but (due to contact lapping?) he unfortunately DNF'd a few laps before the end!

© StewartRACINGIMAGES

All battles and DNF's caused a complete surprise ranking afterwards.
Winner became Jardier (real life racer Jaroslav Honzik) who, like Edwards, started at the back. Due to great speed, plain good racing and multiple DNF's of others a deserved victory! Biggest surprise, also to himself, was second placed CasH. Being slow but consistent seems to pay off ;). Third place went to CasH's teammate Bogdanis, who also did a splendid race in these conditions!

Class 2, P2, fell victim to the ever fast RustyM. Even more astonishing is him ending up 7th overall! BIG congrats!

Just as great are the 2nd and 3rd placed P2 drivers KostasCB1 and Ibrahim Patel, with their 8th and 9th place overall!
Le Mans, just by its length, suits the P1 cars of course, but beware of the P2 men on shorter tracks! They are very competitive overall!
Unfortunately our private photographer missed the winner of this class, most probably due to the fact he dropped his camera out of sheer disbelief, seeing his Teammate Edwards blow his engine :P.
I bet he'll make up for that ;).

Class 3, GT1, was the least crowded class. Only 5 drivers. Nevertheless very spectacular!
Winner here the ever fast and consistent Don't Lift driver Locutus. Him only to be followed by the second finisher in the class, KF12006. Great job guys!

Last, but not least (crowded) class 4, GT2. 7 Contesters here.
However that class suffered their part of DNF's as well, leaving MasterD the victory, followed by the only other GT2 finisher, Bartix. Great effort as well, specially as both ended in front of the second placed GT1 driver!

One request to ALL of you competing here. As you can imagine, with the amount of contesters, we can't watch all the action. It would be a shame if you had some great action and it's not mentioned in our news here.
Therefore yet another request, to send a Race Report to me. It's just great to read how YOU experienced YOUR race!

Now off to the next race: Sprint Race at Laguna Seca!
Good luck to all of you and CU there!

Race Report(s):

By Edwards:

"Starting at the back, it was always going to be dangerous, but somehow managed to get through cleanly on lap 1 and was already in 5th position, I think I started around 24th... Got upto 2nd and then had a battle with Itermin for a couple of laps before he blew his engine! From there Wes got within 6 seconds and then crashed I think, so he dropped right back and I just took it easy for the rest of the race, extending the lead upto 1 min 20 from Jardier. 15 min to go and I was doing my last pit, when I had a crash with Walter whilst lapping him, it damaged my car a bit, but I pitted and still had a 40 second lead. Next lap, the engine let go on the Mulsane due to damage from the crash I presume and that was it. Luckily Jardier was nice enough to push me across the line to finish the race :)!"

Schedule update and test race

Schedule

Due to unexpected issues with the Road America track, we have decided to move Le Mans forward as the first race of the season. Road America is replaced by the old long version of Hockenheim and put in the place of Le Mans in the schedule. The first qualifying sessions start Wednesday 9 December and the race is held on Sunday 13 December. The full schedule containing all the qualifying sessions and the race can be seen on the right.

Turn on your lights as we drive the Le Mans track for 1 hour and 45 minutes through the night! With the time-scale put on x7, we will start at 8PM and finish around 8AM in-game time, so prepare yourself to some night racing.

As usual, the track is available on the download page or through Tyka's autodownload.

Final Rules

Here are the final updates on the rules for this league. We will have standing starts, the tyre wear and fuel usage are put to x1, mechanical failures are put to time-scaled and the points are now distributed per class instead of overall. I.e. the winner in P1 will receive the same amount of points as the winner in P2, GT1 and GT2.

Test Race

After the first test at Silverstone, we are going to do another one to prepare ourselves for the night race. Sunday at 20h30 CET the cars will line up at the Le Mans circuit for one hour of darkness. We are going to start at midnight in-game time and race until 5AM with the time-scale on x5.

The schedule for the test race is as follows:
19h00: room open
20h00: qualifying
20h25: warmup
20h30: race start
21h30: race end
Note: all times are in CET.

Again a small note on the lights: you are allowed to use the lights on the car to warn other classes you are coming to lap them or to say thanks. However, flashing them continuously to distract or annoy other drivers is not allowed.

Another reminder: please take care of the other cars on track. There are going to be cars a lot faster or slower than you, so whenever you are being lapped or especially while lapping, be very careful. Don't try to force your way through while lapping, but wait for the car ahead to move out of the way.

And finally, to get you in the mood for the first race of the season, here's a great video of a lap around Le Mans.

See you on track!

League and Test Race Details

Traction Control

As you may have read on the forum, we have decided to allow traction control for this mod. You can now drive the cars with TC set to the 'low' setting. You can enable/disable TC by pressing F8 (default button) and map a TC-override button on your wheel.

Rolling Starts

We are currently looking into rolling starts. It has not been fully decided yet what start method is going to be used, but this will be announced in time.

Race Lengths Adjustments

The race lengths have been changed slightly due to cars running out of fuel right before the end. We have reduced the sprint races from 45 to 40 minutes and extended the endurance races to 1h45 instead of 1h30. You can see the details in the schedule.

Test Race Details

As announced earlier, we are going to have a test race at Silverstone this Sunday 29 November.

The schedule for the race is as follows:
19h00: room open
20h00: qualifying
20h25: warmup
20h30: race start
21h30: race end
Note: all times are in CET.

We have changed the length of the test race from 45 minutes to 1 hour. This means everyone will have to come in the pits to refuel and change tyres at least once.

This race is intended to get comfortable racing with multiple classes on track and to see what your opponents are driving. Let's make this a fun race and keep the damage to a minumum ;)

Just a note on the lights: you are allowed to use the lights on the car to warn other classes you are coming to lap them or to say thanks. However, flashing them continuously to distract or annoy other drivers is not allowed.

See you on track!

Welcome to the Tyka Endurance Series Winter League

While the Tyka F1 league is heading for its finale at the beautiful Spa track, preparations for the Winter League have already been in progress for several weeks.

No time to rest as the Tyka Winter League is going to kick off 6 December 2009 using the spectacular new mod by EnduRacers: Endurance Series.

The Mod

What's new in this league is that we are going to run all classes at the same time. This league is not going to have one, but multiple championship battles!

Here is already a short explanation on how this is going to work:

1. Everyone is free to choose their car at the beginning of the season. Make your selection carefully, as this is the car you are going to stick with for the rest of the season. It is NOT possible under any circumstance to switch cars during the middle of the league. When entering your first qualifying session, Tyka shows a warning message before you make your car selection to make sure everyone is aware of this rule. Once you have selected your car, this car will be forced for all the remaining qualifying and race sessions. You can discuss in the forum what class everyone is going to run, e.g. to ensure you are in the same class as your team mates or perhaps in different classes if your team has ambitions to win the drivers championship in every class.

2. The points system used can be seen on the rules page. The points are going to be distributed according to finish positions and not per class. This may seem a bit awkward as the drivers in the faster classes are most likely going to win the championship. This is true, but only for the overall championship as the points can be sorted according to the classes. So like said before, each class is going to have a championship of its own.

3. Because of the points being distributed amongst all classes, there is not going to be a team or country championship. This is to avoid teams only driving the fastest class to gain as many points as possible, so we decided to rather remove these championships instead of letting them influence the class selection. Nevertheless, the results still show the drivers' teams so it doesn't make the prestige any less when winning a race for your team.

4. Although still under discussion, we may double the fuel usage and possibly the tyre wear as well to give more of that endurance feeling and to avoid very long stints.

5. As everyone is going to be on track at the same time in cars with a large difference in power, extra caution needs to be taken at the start and when lapping or being lapped. We will stress this at every race and expect everyone to behave properly on track.

6. Although this league is EXP-only, as the mod is intended to be used with traction control we have decided to allow traction control set to low.

The Tracks
As the name of the mod already suggests, we are going to do some great endurance races. We have listened to your votes and are starting off with the one hour of Road America. Then there is the 90 minutes of the infamous Nordschleife, the 90 minutes of Le Mans (which may possibly be held in the darkness of the night!) and to finish the season off, the 2 Hours of Spa.

To avoid straining the drivers too much, the endurance races are varied with sprint races at Laguna Seca, Mid Ohio and Brno. These 45 minute races show whether the consistent endurance racers are also capable of performing in action-packed sprint races. The full race schedule has already been added, and can be seen here. The list of all the qualifying and race sessions will become available before each race.

The Prizes
For this league we have two great prizes: a 1/18 and a 1/43 F1 Minichamps model! More news is coming soon on how you can win one of these two models.

Test Race
To try out your favorite car, to compare yourself against the others and to see what it's like being on the track with different classes, we are going to have a 45-minute race at Silverstone on Sunday 29 November, the weekend before the first league race. We will announce this race in time.

Downloads
The mod is available for download on the download page. We will be using version 1.2 of the mod, so you must first install the full 1.0 version and then extract the contents of the patch over your rFactor installation.

The track for the test race and the first round of the season are already available, on both the download page and through Tyka's autodownload. The rest of the tracks will become available during the season.

Client Update
Although it may seem like a small change on the outside, adding league support for multiple classes was quite a substantial task. The coming week we are going to test these updates to remove as many problems as possible. The weekend before the league starts a client update will be released and for this the server module needs to be restarted. At that time we will also reboot the server due to some other maintenance updates that need to be performed, so there will be a downtime of several minutes. We hope to have ironed out all of the problems by then, but in case there are issues during the league please report them and they will be fixed as soon as possible.

We hope everyone will enjoy this league. The Tyka team are definitely looking forward to it!

For all discussions, please refer to the league forum.
